Why is it that some cigarettes burn faster than others?

In summary: What are the most important factors that influence the burning behavior of a cigarette?

By and large, the speed at which a cigarette burns down depends on these factors:

  • Moisture of the tobacco
  • Tobacco density
  • Burning behavior of the paper

1) Moisture of the tobacco

In order to achieve optimal burning behavior when making your cigarettes yourself with an electric cigarette injector, it is essential that the tobacco is not too dry. How do you know if the tobacco is too dry?

The fresher the tobacco, the better its properties. We have already reported in detail about methods of tobacco storage in other articles (link?) The most important things you should consider are:

Use fresh tobacco - if possible, always use it immediately after opening the tobacco can.

Keep loose tobacco or self-filled cigarettes airtight. This will prevent the tobacco from drying out too quickly. The very best place to keep your cigarettes is in a humidor.

Revitalizing: If you notice that your cigarettes have become a little drier and the taste is changing or burning too quickly, you can simply use a few pieces of apple to give your cigarettes some moisture back.

2) Tobacco density

How do you achieve the ideal tobacco density to prevent a cigarette from burning too quickly or, even worse, from embers falling off while smoking? You don't have to worry about the above, if you are making your cigarettes with an electric cigarette machine, as you can adjust the tobacco density of your cigarettes, even in our most basic models. This is how you create the perfect properties for your personal and tailor-made cigarette. Here are the most important features at a glance:

The tighter a cigarette is, the slower it burns. You can slowly feel your way with how much tobacco and at what level of your cigarette injector you make your cigarettes. It's better to start with a little less at the beginning, so you avoid e.g. that the tube could tear.

If the tobacco is too dry or the strands of tobacco have broken off and there is a lot of very finely chopped tobacco in the cigarette, the risk of your cigarette burning up faster or even embers falling off increases. Our patented sliding technology protects the tobacco during the injection process and prevents tobacco breakage. So you can make a cigarette yourself at home that has the same features as an industrially manufactured cigarette, only that your cigarette is a lot cheaper.

Try everything once at the beginning! Some customers write to us that after months or even years they have tried a different setting or different filter tubes and that this has led to a significantly more enjoyable smoking. Why wait to create your perfect cigarette? Just do it from the start! Test different tubes and types of tobacco to create your individual, perfect taste.

3) Burning behavior of the paper of your filter tubes

Can you argue about tastes? Of course not! I.e. When you've found your favorite filter tubes, don't let all the “well-intentioned” advice from the community unsettle you. It can't hurt, however, to try something different every now and then. In the worst case, your opinion will be confirmed and in the best case you will even find a product that you like better.

When buying your paper tubes, note whether the paper has an "extra-slow burning behavior". Some brands have particularly slow-burning versions of their filter tubes.

If you make your cigarettes and don't use them straight away, you should always keep them airtight, so the tobacco and tube are best kept for a longer period of time.

Try different tube-formats too. There are cigarette tubes in different lengths and thicknesses. Do you already know which of them have the optimal burning properties for you? Almost all of our automatic cigarette injection machines can achieve optimal results with all commercially available cigarette tubes. This gives you the freedom to orientate yourself completely according to your taste.
